Enthusiastic, determined, positive, selfless…these are just some of the first words that come to mind when talking about our Featured Volunteer, Barb Griffin. Barb has gone above and beyond as a Fernside volunteer and we are thrilled to recognize her.
Barb’s introduction to Fernside began as an office volunteer, preparing expressive arts materials that are used in our support groups. She completed facilitator training in the fall of 2013 and she’s been a facilitator at our East Side location the past six years. Barb started in the 1st-2nd-3rd grade group and now leads a group with 4th-5th graders. In addition to her twice-a-month support group commitment, Barb did double-duty for two years helping us at our monthly New Family Orientation too!
Because facilitating on two different nights regularly wasn’t enough, Barb joined the camp team and volunteered at our Teen Retreat in 2016 and 2017.
And we aren’t finished. Or should we say Barb wasn’t finished! In 2018 Barb decided to contribute her considerable talents to fundraising for Fernside. She joined our Fernside Classic committee in 2018 and this past year, chaired the silent auction portion of the event.
Barb recently retired from her full-time job but lucky for us, it’s only energized her to do even more for Fernside than ever before. Thank you, Barb, for your tireless efforts to help the children and families we serve!
